Different Types of Massages
Swedish - Massage to invoke relaxation through the use of long strokes, kneading, squeezing, stretching and rubbing out tension in the muscles. Very therapeutic and calming and does not involve deep work.
Deep Tissue - Massage for pain relief. Usually involves working into the deeper layers of muscles through deep pressure and myofascial release. Can also be very relaxing, working with the client's pain tolerance.
Neuromuscular Therapy - Massage therapy that involves finding trigger points and releasing them and addresses the problems that are causing these dysfunctions. Used to assess, treat and prevent soft tissue injuries and chronic pain. This massage will reduce ischemia (the muscles lack the necessary oxygen supply to function normally), release trigger points, reduce spasms, restore flexibility, rebuild strength, and rebuild overall endurance. Can be very relaxing and intense. May involve a series of massages in order to treat issues.
Sandhi Abhyanga (Joint Detoxification) - Based on the science of living, it is used to detox the joints and free up blockage in the bowels which can lead to aches and pains. This massage is over 2,000 years old and comes from India. It is designed to improve musculoskeletal performance and enhance structural balance. It aids in reducing the wear and tear on the joints and tendons. This massage releases trapped energy, improves circulation of blood and energy, stimulates digestion and elimination, alleviates chronic aches and pains, and improves joint mobility. You may feel light, warm, tingly, alive, and relieved of tension afterward.
Pregnancy Massage - Massage therapy targeting the aches and pains of motherhood. Massage is customized to the mother receiving massage. Massage can be done from 0 months until 9 months.
Hot Stone Therapy - Massage performed using basalt or lava stones that retain heat very well. They are strategically placed on pressure points that relieves tension and discomfort. Stones are also used to massage the body. The heat from the rocks relaxes the muscles and takes away your stress.
Reflexology - If you got knots in your feet and your feet always feels tired and needs a good rubbing, this is the massage for you. This is foot massage that works on reflexes of the feet that correspond to certain organs in the body. It helps promote circulation and homeostasis of the body.
Chinese Tui-Na - Chinese Tui Na is an ancient massage technique that uses rolling massage with the hands and forearms to stimulate the muscles along the Chinese Meridians. Tui Na practitioners use massage and manual manipulation techniques to encourage the flow of Qi by massaging the soft tissue of the body and uses acupressure techniques to improve the flow of Qi. Tuina (Tui Na) practitioners seeks to establish a more harmonious flow of Qi through the system of channels and collaterals, allowing the body the naturally heal itself. External herbal poultices, compresses, liniments, and salves are also used to enhance the other therapeutic methods.
